Charity

Charitable donations received from patients and friends are held separately in a health centre charity account and are used for the purchase of additional equipment and books for the benefit for all our patients. Cheques should be written out to ” V. Masharani, Health Centre Charity Account” and sent to the Practice .

A big thank you goes to Eileen Derrick, Geraldine Robinson, Sonia Ward and Pat Seymour who collected money towards the purchase of 11 armchairs, which cost about £1,120. Some patients had commented that they were struggling to get up from the regular chairs in the surgery.

So far purchases made from charitable donations  in 2009 include a baby weighing scale for our health visitors, a multifunction printer ( enabling health visitors to print leaflets for patients), some anatomical models to use in consultations with patients, and health education material about best treatment for diabetes, bad backs, whiplash etc.

Past purchases include:

• 24 hour ECG machine
• Hearing test machine
• Ambulatory blood pressure machine
• Oxygen monitor
• Defibrillator
• Resuscitation equipment
• ECG machine
• Spirometer for testing lung function
• Colour printer to allow health visitors to produce leaflets for patients.
• Books
• Fetal Sonicaid for midwife

From 1^st April 2004 the rules for accepting gifts and donations has changed. The practice will have to keep a register of all gifts made by patients, relatives or any other person of the value over £100. The register will include the name of the donor and either their address or NHS number. We are therefore warning prospective donors that this information will be kept and may be disclosed to the Integrated Care Board on request.
