Checking for prostate cancer

Posted on May 17th, 2023

There is, understandably, a great deal of concern amongst men regarding prostate cancer. The NHS does not have a national prostate cancer screening program because there is no reliable way of detecting cancer in people with no symptoms. The key things is if you HAVE SYMPTOMS of prostate disease such as:-

  • passing urine more often during the day or night (nocturia)
  • difficulty passing urine – this includes a weaker flow, not emptying your bladder completely and straining when starting to empty your bladder
  • urgency to pass urine

then you need to seek attention by booking a call with a doctor in the practice.

Dr Masharani has produced an article regarding current thoughts regarding having a PSA test and prostate cancer detection which you may find helpful here.
